High-Performance Training App
A mobile app that integrates into a comprehensive training ecosystem, empowering rugby players to prepare effectively for the game. Complemented by a web app, this ecosystem enables coaches and administrators to design and manage personalized training programs tailored to the needs of both teams and individual players.
Role: Product Designer
Problem Statement
Rugby players, coaches, and administrators often struggle to create and manage effective, personalized training programs that address the unique needs of both teams and individual athletes.
This lack of tailored preparation tools can hinder player performance and team cohesion.
Goal Statement
The goal of the training ecosystem is to empower rugby players, coaches, and administrators by providing a comprehensive and user-friendly platform that enables the creation, management, and execution of personalized training programs.
By integrating a mobile app for players and a web app for coaches, the system aims to enhance player performance, improve team cohesion, and streamline the training process.
PRODUCT DISCOVERY
User Research
To gain a deeper understanding of customer needs, I conducted customer development calls, engaging in direct conversations with potential users. These calls served as valuable opportunities to gather insights and uncover their primary needs:
PRODUCT DEFINITION
App Business Flow
The initial phase of the product discovery process involved thoroughly mapping out the entire business workflow of the app. We carefully considered each type of user—administrator, super coach, coach, and athlete—ensuring that their unique roles and interactions were clearly defined. This approach allowed us to understand their distinct journeys within the app, from their specific tasks and goals to how they would navigate through different features, ensuring a cohesive and user-centric experience across the platform.
MVP
Wireframes
During the wireframing process for both the web and mobile apps, we focused on creating a clear and intuitive layout that caters to the needs of each user type.
For the mobile app, we prioritized ease of use and accessibility, ensuring that core features like personalized training plans and progress tracking were easily navigable. For the web app, the focus was on providing robust management tools for coaches and administrators, with a well-structured interface that allows seamless control over team and individual training programs. This stage was crucial in visualizing user flows and refining the overall user experience before moving into detailed design.
UI Design
The UI design process for the app ecosystem focused on creating a visually cohesive and user-friendly interface for both the web and mobile platforms.
For the mobile app, the emphasis was on simplicity and clarity, ensuring quick access to training plans and progress updates. On the web app, we incorporated more detailed controls and dashboards, giving coaches and administrators powerful tools to manage teams and individual programs effectively. Throughout the process, we maintained consistency in visual elements such as color schemes, typography, and icons to ensure a unified user experience across devices.
Next Steps
To enhance the product ecosystem for the web and mobile apps, the next steps could include:
User Feedback and Testing: Conduct usability testing with real users (admins, coaches, athletes) to gather feedback on navigation, design, and overall experience. This will help identify pain points and areas for improvement.
AI Integration for Personalized Experiences: Incorporate AI to deliver more personalized training recommendations, predictive performance analysis, and automated feedback based on user data. This can enhance the athlete’s experience and provide valuable insights to coaches.
Gamification Features: Add gamification elements such as achievements, leaderboards, and challenges to motivate athletes, increase engagement, and foster competition.
Integration with Wearable Devices: Consider integrating with fitness trackers or wearable technology to gather real-time performance data, such as heart rate, speed, or calories burned, for a more holistic training experience.
